The little that goes on inside my head. My attempt to waste some time between wasting times.

Argh! I called my grandparents in China to say I'm leaving. They told me they read about Tsinghua Univ. in China (the Harvard of China) starting a executive MBA program with "top Wharton and Harvard professors...." My grandparents were very excited to read Wharton for the first time in a Chinese newspaper and are now finally assured that I'm going to a brand-name school. And all this time I thought they were happy for me because penn offers a great education and will (hopefully) make me a better person. Then they gave me the whole "when you make a lot of money" rhetoric.....it got me pretty down for the night =( I know I shouldn't be fidgeting with 73 yr old grandparents but I can't control how I feel...

Then today my mom and I went into the heart of Monterey Park to buy stuff, and there I was, standing in a crowd pushed and shoved back and forth by people speaking this southern china dialect that I have no understanding of....I just felt so out of place. I think, as bad as it sounds, I've been whitewashed....and I'm ready to leave this place.

3 more days!

A week to go before college starts...mixed feelings like everyone else. We all promise to see everyone when we get back for holidays and stuff, and i'm sure we will, but i'm also sure that we'll all be very different to each other from the old us in our memories when we meet again (did that make sense?). I mean, deep down inside we're still the same people that we've always known, same qualities, same strengths and weaknesses. No matter how much we try to reinvent ourselves in college and maybe carry that new image back home, our old, true selves will come through like that. Unless, of course, we've been hiding our true selves in high school until now, but I think that's kinda hard to pull over 4 years.

I'm almost done packing now save the summer clothes that I still need for the last week. Flying out on the 27th...so I guess this is the last week in my life when I'm actually "living" at home. In the future I'll just be "visiting" home. I can and can't imagine a place that I've only seen for 2 days to be my home for the next five years. Berkeley people are gone, Hiroki's already in his dorm at St. Louis, Candy leaves today for Portland, usc people leave this week, then us east coast people leave, then it's just the UCs left...then arcadia will be left to the mercy of the new seniors....have fun guys! with your shrunken parking lot! do I sound bitter? I don't mean to. Ok i'm gonna go now.
