OK so I'm finally gonna blog after almost a month in college. Penn's really cool, you got the NYU style urban-ness and hip places in downtown but you also have this enclosed campus area with a bazillion trees and really old buildings. My dorm's on the 4th floor of this 100 yr old building, and the roof is kinda slanted, I banged my head on it my first day here. I got into band, then decided to quit cus I don't have time for it. I'm also in Kite and Key, which is a volutneer club (Kite and Key, think Ben Franklin, aha!) I applied to be a tour guide, just had an interview today, think it went well. Also applied to student gov committee on undergrad education. I'm also a general assignment reporter for the Daily Pennsylvanian, the most-widely read college student newspaper in the country. Basically the editor sends an email to the listserv of GAs and whoever replies first gets the story the editor throws out there. So far someone else has always beaten me to it, but eventually I'll get one =P I also applied to Wharton China Business Forum, which is a student-run org, endorsed by Wharton, a bunch of giant corporations, and the Chinese government to host a meeting next March in Ritz Carlton in Philly where all these hot shot execs from China are gonna come to talk about their stuff. Hopefully I get the job. I have a workstudy job in Wharton Executive MBA, which is a prog for like 40 year olds who are already big shot execs to come back to get their MBAs, so they take classes at night, on weekends, and over the summer. Basically, I'm the office slave, xeroxing stuff and running errands. But o well. Now, after all the good stuff, I still have those annoying lil pests called classes. I'm taking Management 100: Leadership in Groups, MGMT 101: Managerial Economics, Finance 103: Honors Micro/Maco Economics, Physics 150: Principles I (AP phys w/ calculus), and MATH 114: Multivariable Calculus. Phys is ok for now, math is just like ms. king's class but with a worse teacher. mgmt 100 is a project thingie where we get into groups and must work together and complete a big community service project. My teams' project is to basically act as lil Wharton consultants to the local Red Cross chapter and tell them how their operations can be improved. It's taking more and more of my time as we speak. MGMT 101 is just read 20 pgs of stuff every night and write 2 papers on week on like the science of management. I have to read all these case studies and stuff from Harvard Business Review. I can't believe someone actually does research on how to order people around and have them listen to you! Finance 103 is just micro and macro econ smashed into one semester instead of two...i have no idea how the hell they picked me for this class...since i've never taken econ before. I stayed up till 4:30AM on Sunday night, but that wasn't hte norm. It's usually a lil later than HS but not too much, around 1-2AM ish. My earliest class is 10, so I can basically go to bed at 2 and still get close to 8 hrs of sleep. =D The Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival was last Sunday and I went out w/ the Chinese Student Assoc. to Philly Chinatown, where they had a parade w/ drums and dragons and lions...quite fun. then we got some REAL Chinese food.....god I miss it. there's more to update, but I can't think of much now. until next time... |
